This valentine's day was the first in nearly 60 years that my mother-in-law did not receive a card and a gift from her loving husband.  That is because he went home this past September.  The Christmas holidays were tough on her and my wife and I knew Valentine's Day could be the hardest.  So; we decided to spend our time with her.

Without anyone else in the family mentioning it, the entire family had the same idea.  Her 3 daughters, her son, and their entire families came over. That house was full of love. Children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the in-laws were all there.  We laughed and we cried with her.  It didn't take much conversation for us all to realize that God sent us all there.

She had brought out some old cards from my father-in-law and placed them on the coffee table.  One was last year's card with some dried up rose petals lying in front.  Those petals reminded me: "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away." (Revelation 21:4)

It was difficult for us all to leave her there alone for the night.  But we can rejoice in the sure knowledge of the gift of eternal life from our Lord and Savior. That is one Valentine's gift I cherish more than any other.

That sounds like a valentines day that the Lord Himself planned and put into motion.  The same thing happened last summer on the anniversary of the death of our 14 month old grand-daughter Logan.  Her mother, my daughter Jodi was having an especially bad time with it this year and on the day of the anniversary the entire family showed up at her house and we had a great day of remembering our beloved Logan, there were stories and laughing and many tears and hugs all around.  An amazing day of rememberance and bringing the family closer together.
